The Maltese Falcon

Black and white movies are always dramatic. Black and white MYSTERY movies are the MOST dramatic movies of all time!! The music throughout the movie actually made me laugh because it was so dramatic. It was also interesting that the movie began with a brief synopsis. It certainly made the movie much easier to follow. The way the actors spoke at times was hard for me to understand, but the overall plot of the movie was easy to grasp--everyone wants the Maltese falcon.

I love that the movie is scandalous!!! You have Spade having an affair with his dead partner's wife and Ms. Wonderly/O'Shaughnessy had everyone fooled. I did not expect her to kill Archer and I DID NOT EXPECT SPADE TO TURN HER IN.

Also, it's so weird to me that Spade and Ms. O'Shaughnessy "fell in love" even though they barely know each other.

This movie is an example of what I think is a mystery. There are murders AND suspense. Especially when everyone realized the Maltese falcon was fake. The plot of this movie is SO much different than the plot of Piers Plowman. For starters, religion and allegorical figures are not involved. I do think that this plot is similar to the plots of Sherlock Holmes mysteries because 1) there's an actual detective involved 2) there are two murders and 3) the issue is resolved in the end.
