Crying of Lot 49 Ch. 1-2
What first struck me as odd about this novella was the names of the characters that are just bizarre. I found myself laughing a couple of the, especially Mr. Hilarious. It makes me think that the author used these made up names as a means of describing these character's personalities or inherent traits without explicitly giving background information. Most of the names associate with different emotions or have deeper meanings. Also, I noticed that the radio station Mucho works at (didn't know the term "DJ" was used back then) is "Fuck" backwards (KCUF). She mentions a triptych that she saw in Mexico City which reminded me of The Garden of Earthly Delights. It was also interesting how "easy" Oedipa was, which is pretty brutal for her as she initially realizes but then gets over it.
