Piers Plowman 8-9

These passus really get into Piers' personality and how he interacts with the "people" around him. This priest dude comes in and really seems to stress him out about God's "judgement" and how certain people will be saved and others won't as a result of their amount of sin, which seems to have a razor-thin margin. The priest also seems to be a little arrogant because apparently being a priest back then was like being a famous athlete now. He goes "Were thou a prest, Peres, thou myght preche whan the lykede..." (A, 8, 121-122)

Piers gets all bent out of shape after the priest basically guilts him into devoting his life to the church and tears up the pardon, saying he will now focus on not sinning and preventing his own damnation.

It was interesting how the Dreamer awoke, yet again, did some stuff and then just fell back asleep again like it was nothing! I don't understand how he is doing this but that may be irrelevant to the story. At the end of passus 9 they find Wit. I have yer to figure out why this story is called "Piers Plowman," but I am assuming we will find out soon enough.
